“The close tournament was an opportunity to select players to represent DISTED in the Penang Inter-Collegiate Games 2006,” said Tennis Club advisor and coach Josephine Chan Ie Lyn, who is also the college’s marketing manager.

“The event was also meant to expose new players to competitive tennis as well as for all tennis enthusiasts of the college to have fun and get to know each other better,” she added.

The tennis tournament attracted over more than 20 entries.

With 6 years’ experience in playing tennis, Khoo Chung Lee won the boy’s singles category with a breeze.

“I didn’t face any stiff competition to win the title. Of course, I still feel great being the champion this year!” said Khoo who was roped into playing tennis by his father.

Khoo was the tennis bronze medallist in the 2004 MSSPP (Penang Schools’ Sports Council) competition and had also won the SMJK Chung Ling Penang tennis championship.

Tennis is a family game to Khoo who used to play 2 or 3 times a week with his father and brother.
